Falling in love over the internet...do you really ever know someone?

I have friends that have met and fell in love over the internet. At first I was worried for them (that they might not know the person good enough ect), however, then I got to thinking that it was no different than meeting someone at a bar, through sports or at work. Meeting and giving your heart to someone is always a gamble. You hope that they are honest and who you think they are, but sadly, sometimes you don't find out those details until later and sadly sometimes the person is not honest. So, for my friends that have found love in far away places...I salute them...for they have as good of chance as any other of it working out. :)

What do you all think?

I think we should go back to family pickins', where parents pick your partners. That way, when it doesn't turn out right, you can blame your parents! (j.k.)

There is some truth to that you know. If families (as they were) were closer today, neighbors, etc., they would "know" the kids, and probably could choose better than our libidos...I would point out too, that if every family went to same churches, groups, they would be raising the kids around each other, for years!

Case in point. My dad was a minister. We went to this tiny little church. We met some fine young gentlemen, my sis and me...I look back now...I should have married that guy....He turned out great, but who knows...

Just a crazy thought.

Pick up my new novel - Intimate Distance - and read how my heroine deals with the man she falls in love with on line. . . yes, we write what we know, so some of the story is based on personal experience, and that of some of my friends. Seems when this topic comes up, everybody has a story to tell.

I could relate to that, Karla. All my friendships and relationships are on line. Doesn't stop them from being stimulating and supportive people. I'll have to check out your book at Barnes & Noble. And your point about not knowing the people we meet in RL is well taken. We don't have the established communities with long acquaintance that used to save marriages from being a crap shoot.

Paper War

I've been waging a war on paper the last few days. So far, paper is winning. The more I clean up, the more of it I find. The problem is, for much of it, I feel an obligation to do a thorough examination and decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

The mailperson is my enemy. He, sometimes she, keeps leaving more paper in my mail box. I'm not talking about my Christmas cards, which I cherish, but all the other stuff dropped off for me to sort out. At times it's torture to come home and see the new pile the DH has set on the kitchen table.

I've discovered tons of magazines over a year old. They were trying to hide in a magazine holder on the side of the couch, but not doing a good job of it, since they were spilling over. Of course, I decided to check the headings on the covers to see if some of the information inside might prove valuable. Wouldn't you know it, I was right. Many articles seemed to good to give up.

I've already mentioned here before about how I also have a compulsion to print out emails that seem important to me. The result is I have lots of important pieces of paper. When there's an abundance, which is the most important? And, where's the one I really need? It is a quandary.

What about you? Is paper your enemy? Are you also waging a war against it? Who is winning?

Rascal's Turn to Post

Today, I'm going to tackle my State of Illinois sales tax form, which is due by the end of the month. It's a necessary evil for making book sales outside of stores.

So, I let Rascal do a post instead. You can read it at http://www.doggyspace.com/journal/57331

If you understand her frustration, you can share it with her here or there.

Thanks,
Morgan

Rascal is sleeping right now. When she gets up, you'll know about it.

When RASCAL wakes up, you'll hear from her and/or her Mom - that would be me, Morgan Mandel.
