BOOK PLACE

A PLACE TO SHARE AND/OR PROMOTE BOOKS - SEE WHAT'S OUT THERE

I'm a huge Joseph Campbell fan. Some girls chase rock stars...I admire deceased mythologists. But I've always liked smart men. I adore the Hero's Journey, and incorporate it into all my books. Anyone else out there have opinions? Questions? Don't know what I'm talking about?

C'mon, don't be shy!

My favorite part of The Hero's Journey is the reluctant hero. When an ordinary person has had ENOUGH and they realize if they don't act, then nothing's going to change! For my book HEDDA'S SWORD, out just today from Samhain, my heroine Maleta's gotten some powerful off-stage motivation. Raped and left for dead, her parents slaughtered, her ancestral home stolen and her little brother abducted and brainwashed. HEDDA'S SWORD opens on her hunting down the mercenary captain she holds responsible. Classic good vs evil light vs dark. Good is strengthened by the fight against evil. The light shines brighter when contrasted against the dark. In HEDDA'S SWORD, nothing and no one is what they seem at first. The journey twists and turns - you can never take anything for granted!

Hi Renee,
How great to see this post. The very first line of my upcoming book is "You are already the hero of your own life..." and the workshop I deliver based on the book utilises a lot of Campbell's structure as a means of looking at our own lives to see where we are on our own hero's journey. All too many people are bogged down in the day-to-day grind and cannot take a step back to see the shape of their own hero's tale, perhaps spending decades in the headlock of "resisting the call". While I have not read Campbell's book (it's on my list of "must reads" for 2009), reading about his model via 3rd party authors has provided me with a great tool to help unlock people's inner hero in my coaching, training and writing.

Would love to talk to you more about this, as I am looking for authors to interview on my very new (like only 1 week old!) BlogTalkRadio show "Lynn Serafinn's Garden of the Soul", which I describe as a show that features "a range of inspiring topics and special guests, exploring personal empowerment, life purpose, balance of mind, body and spirit, and how to tap into the inner hero that lies within every human being.

If you are interested, I would LOVE to have you as a guest to talk about the power of exploring the hero within both in writing, and in personal development.

Warm wishes,
Lynn

P.S.: I am brand new to this site, so any and all friend invitations especially those who wish to explore joint ventures of any kind, from being a guest on my show (or vice versa) to internet book promotion collaboration, etc. would be most welcome!

Agreed that was exactly what I felt to see it obliges us to think about our own self, that part of our life, our hero is forced to comply with each of our goals and objectives in life and that makes us in our own heroes, certainly forces us to think very good, very, very good

If you haven't yet, check out the post below about the Paper War.

Thanks,

Paper War

I've been waging a war on paper the last few days. So far, paper is winning. The more I clean up, the more of it I find. The problem is, for much of it, I feel an obligation to do a thorough examination and decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

The mailperson is my enemy. He, sometimes she, keeps leaving more paper in my mail box. I'm not talking about my Christmas cards, which I cherish, but all the other stuff dropped off for me to sort out. At times it's torture to come home and see the new pile the DH has set on the kitchen table.

I've discovered tons of magazines over a year old. They were trying to hide in a magazine holder on the side of the couch, but not doing a good job of it, since they were spilling over. Of course, I decided to check the headings on the covers to see if some of the information inside might prove valuable. Wouldn't you know it, I was right. Many articles seemed to good to give up.

I've already mentioned here before about how I also have a compulsion to print out emails that seem important to me. The result is I have lots of important pieces of paper. When there's an abundance, which is the most important? And, where's the one I really need? It is a quandary.

What about you? Is paper your enemy? Are you also waging a war against it? Who is winning?
