I'm helping pull together Mystery On the High Seas: A Cruise To Die For.
Details: Nov. 14-21, leaving from Los Angeles. Three days at sea for panels and such. Ports-of-call: Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. No extra charge for the conference, just pay for the cabin. Really encouraging fans, small presses and their authors to attend. I'm also trying to negotiate with the ship so we can sell our books.

Bev has wrangled 120 cabins. She'd like to see $100 deposit to hold a cabin as soon as possible, a second installment on the deposit of $150 by June 1, and the remainder by Aug. 25. Go to
Beverly@cruisingsmart.com  She'll also send you the flyer.

The conference hasn't even been over for 3 months and Marilyn Meredith has already got some great speakers on board. Horror writer Simon Wood is going to talk about Creating Suspense. Michael A. Black will give us a lesson in putting together a plot in an hour. Forensic expert, Steve Scarborough, is returning to tell us more about forensics.

Michael Orenduff, apparently you and your wife will show and tell us what makes a good cover--and what doesn't.

And me? Well, I was asked to speak on "How Much Sex is Too Much?" (Hmmm. I think they mean in the mystery/police genre.)

I also attended the Public Safety Writers conference in Las Vegas and learned a great deal both from the formal sessions and the informal chats with other writers. Like Holli Castillo said, it was a good place to sell some books. However, most of us bought as many as we sold, so it was sort of a zero-sum game except for the publishers who made out like bandits! I don't mind, though, because the books I bought are all turning out to be good reads. You can find out more about my books at www.orenduff.org.

I also attended the Public Safety Writers conference in Vegas (I'm still in Vegas, actually.) I have to agree with Sunny that it was a great conference. The speakers and other attendees shared a wealth of information from diverse backgrounds. I learned a lot, got to sell some of my books, and got to hang out with some wildly entertaining people. Anyone who writes about police, prosecutors, emergency services, etc., should join this group, www.policewriter.com. If you have a question relating to one of these fields, someone there will have the answer.

Hi all. Just got in from the Vegas Public Safety Writers conference, very intense. Have to take off for Atlanta tomorrow, just time for brief message. Great conference, group doubled in size. Forensic handwriting expert, fingerprint expert, Oak Tree Press publisher, Betty Webb, marketing advice, much more. I hope other PSWA members chime in and add to this report. Anyone out there with a police, fireman, deputy, paramedic, any connection to Public Safety, this is a group you should become part of. Excellent sources for info for our novels. Great promotion, contests, a chance to sell books (I nearly sold out). And, IT'S VEGAS, BABY! http://www.policewriter.com/

I was just interviewed by Jenny Gilliam at Spicy Romances
http://authorspotlights.wordpress.com/ You can read a hot little excerpt from WHERE ANGELS FEAR when my heroine and gal-pal go try on leather outfits for an "adult" party. Fun stuff.
Jenny put out a call for other authors who would like to do some PR at the site. Contact her at jennygilliam@rocketmail.com
Tell her Sunny sent you.

WHERE ANGELS FEAR, the sequel to FOOLS RUSH IN is finally here! Part of the Christy Bristol Astrology Mysteries, this time I based the book on a sex club we busted in Fresno County. We thought it was a fruit and vegetable stand. Well, at least it was "organic!"

Paper War

I've been waging a war on paper the last few days. So far, paper is winning. The more I clean up, the more of it I find. The problem is, for much of it, I feel an obligation to do a thorough examination and decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

The mailperson is my enemy. He, sometimes she, keeps leaving more paper in my mail box. I'm not talking about my Christmas cards, which I cherish, but all the other stuff dropped off for me to sort out. At times it's torture to come home and see the new pile the DH has set on the kitchen table.

I've discovered tons of magazines over a year old. They were trying to hide in a magazine holder on the side of the couch, but not doing a good job of it, since they were spilling over. Of course, I decided to check the headings on the covers to see if some of the information inside might prove valuable. Wouldn't you know it, I was right. Many articles seemed to good to give up.

I've already mentioned here before about how I also have a compulsion to print out emails that seem important to me. The result is I have lots of important pieces of paper. When there's an abundance, which is the most important? And, where's the one I really need? It is a quandary.

What about you? Is paper your enemy? Are you also waging a war against it? Who is winning?

Rascal's Turn to Post

Today, I'm going to tackle my State of Illinois sales tax form, which is due by the end of the month. It's a necessary evil for making book sales outside of stores.

So, I let Rascal do a post instead. You can read it at http://www.doggyspace.com/journal/57331

If you understand her frustration, you can share it with her here or there.

Thanks,
Morgan

Rascal is sleeping right now. When she gets up, you'll know about it.

When RASCAL wakes up, you'll hear from her and/or her Mom - that would be me, Morgan Mandel.
