About Me:
I was born October 10, 19… in good ole Queens, New York. I had a difficult childhood because I developed severe eczema and most of my schoolmates shunned me until high school. Books became my friend.
Early in life, I found myself fascinated by the macabre. I would actually set my alarm if one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock, Rod Serling or One Step Beyond was coming on late at night. These kept me up ‘til the wee hours of the morning.
Being raised in Amityville was the icing on the cake. My biological mother died when I was thirteen, the age where puberty reared its ugly head. Needless to say, I was a wife and mother by the time I was seventeen, divorced at twenty. Then I met Fred, my second, current and final husband. We’ve been together 36 years. He helped me become an adult although I went kicking and fighting the whole way. Together, we raised six children. I’m now a Gramma of eight!
My oldest memories are of reading. I was always in a book, letting it take me places only I imagined. Sometimes I felt more at home in the author’s world than in my own. Stephen King and Dean Koontz are my ultimate tour guides and honorable mentions go to Jean Auel and Agatha Christie.
My Dad was an entrepreneur and I saw the only limitations you have are the ones you put on yourself. In the early 60’s, my father owned his own cab in NY, which was unusual for a Black man born in 1918 and armed with only a high school education. When he saved up enough money, while raising a family of 7, he bought a beer and soda distributorship right outside JFK airport. He and my Mom ran the store. My younger sister, Lori and I ran the little sandwich truck we used to push in front of the store each morning. In fact, that’s where I met my soul mate and husband of 36 years.
My father’s entrepreneurial spirit inspired me to try for goals folks said were out of my reach, like standup comedy and becoming an author, an idea some discouraged since I never graduated college.
Ace of Hearts” started 28 years ago in answer to a bet. Lori said, “You read so much, I bet you could write a book” and I answered, “I bet I could.” After many transitions, from sitting in a park writing it in longhand in 1980 to typewriter to word processor to computer in 2003, I learned the new technology and now thinks of my computer as my toy.
Five years ago, I had foot surgery and Lori suggested I get “Ace of Hearts” down, dust it off, do some editing and see if it would fly. She pushed me to print several copies of her manuscript and paid for my attendance at NBCC (National Book Club Convention) held in Atlanta annually, the first weekend in August. I handed my manuscripts out in a room full of Zane fans and soon book clubs were talking! I met my good friend and soon-to–be publisher, Diane Dorcé, owner and CEO of Firefly Publishing and Entertainment that weekend. Three months later, I signed a contract, went through the editing process one more time and “Ace of Hearts” was born!
The moral of my story: Never give up your dream.

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”
Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:
The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

The books is done. Actually, I am doing some final editing. I am sending out my query letters. I don't want to self-publish. My desire to be published has not lessened so I am still at it. I see things are going well for you. Congrats and be blessed!

You have a wonderful story and I agree with never giving up on your dreams. I have been a social worker for 20 years but have to step out on faith because I have a burning desire to publish my work. I can't teach my kids at school to folow their dreams if mine haven't been followed. I took the safe route so now I am going to take chances. Blessings to you!!

Come on Over

I'm over at a few other blogs today. If you get a chance, come on over to see the Christmas Decorations at http://acmeauthorslink.blogspot.com/

At http://bloodredpencil.blogspot.com/  the topic is Spoiled Milk. Ever sit down to read a good book and been disappointed?

If you haven't yet, check out the post below about the Paper War.

Thanks,

Paper War

I've been waging a war on paper the last few days. So far, paper is winning. The more I clean up, the more of it I find. The problem is, for much of it, I feel an obligation to do a thorough examination and decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

The mailperson is my enemy. He, sometimes she, keeps leaving more paper in my mail box. I'm not talking about my Christmas cards, which I cherish, but all the other stuff dropped off for me to sort out. At times it's torture to come home and see the new pile the DH has set on the kitchen table.

I've discovered tons of magazines over a year old. They were trying to hide in a magazine holder on the side of the couch, but not doing a good job of it, since they were spilling over. Of course, I decided to check the headings on the covers to see if some of the information inside might prove valuable. Wouldn't you know it, I was right. Many articles seemed to good to give up.

I've already mentioned here before about how I also have a compulsion to print out emails that seem important to me. The result is I have lots of important pieces of paper. When there's an abundance, which is the most important? And, where's the one I really need? It is a quandary.

What about you? Is paper your enemy? Are you also waging a war against it? Who is winning?
