About Me:
Hello:

We’re all about the author. What does this mean? Book Candy Studios (BCS) knows if authors stop writing then the world becomes less interesting. We also know if authors take too much time away from writing to promote themselves then the great books readers crave to read get delayed.

Authors who are serious about expanding their presence in mainstream channels know they can't rely on their publisher to do it all for them. That's where we come in! BCS manages these tasks so authors don't take time away from what they enjoy doing - creating books!

We help the author promote their works via simple and direct people-centric marketing. Ever wonder how some authors become so well known while others just sit on the shelf? Viral marketing. What was once word of mouth has entered the computer age, however it still comes down to people. Our viral marketing programs focus on people not technology.

There's no magic to what Book Candy does; it's simply hard work and smarts in play, driven by industry professionals who know interactive media, internet technologies, sales & distribution and public relations. Book Candy Studios viral marketing programs build real audiences with real people by blending elements from social media platforms, digital media, and relationships with real people (not bots and widgets) which can translate to healthier sales.

With the today's economy, authors cannot afford to spend promotional dollars on traditional "throw away marketing programs”. Our programs are simple and affordable with no sticky contracts. All work is performed on a work order basis – you set the terms. And there's something that Book Candy offers that other companies won't... 24/7 personal hands-on client support.

We believe book promotions should be like a piece of candy - quick, fun, enticing and leaving the reader with a taste for more!

Promote your books with us and have some fun along the way!

Stop belly aching that "you haven't made it big." Do you know how many people in the world would give their two front teeth to have readers who want to know about them? Do you know how wonderful it is that you wrote a book... th… Continue

AUTHORS - Read Your T&Cs!

With all the recent media attention on the pending Healthcare Bill and whether our elected representatives are actually "reading the bill" before signing it into law, I thought I'd take a moment to emphasize the importance of reading (and understanding) all the paperwork we as authors must contend with in our daily lives.

As you know, earning a living in today's publishing arena is vastly different and greatly more complicated than the world our predecessors faced just 20 short years ago. Today… Continue

How Much Does Luck Contribute to an Author's Success?

Luck Be Our Lady!
How much does luck contribute to an author's success?

When I think about luck and writing, one of the first word sets that comes to mind is Harry Potter. That is far more than a story of success for a down-and-out writer who was on social services sitting in a coffee shop every day with her infant at her feet writing her book. An ex-school teacher who was writing for no one but herself. That is truly a story of phenomenal luck with a capital "L."

As I've heard the story, J.K.… Continue

AUTHORS! Stop Obsessing About The Numbers ;-)

We live in a technology-based society. As authors, we tend to obsess about numbers that we THINK are important (i.e., Alexa rankings, website stats, Amazon rankings) to our success when in reality these numbers are only distractions. Let me explain.

Most tech data points are just that. They reflect data … not people. Can you really directly translate hits and page views to readers (they could be bots)? Is there anyone out there who can directly correlate an Amazon ranking to actual number of bo… Continue

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”
Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:
The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Slides, Anyone?

I added a few slides of my books to my blogspot. I'm not sure yet if they should stay on or not.

Do you have more trouble loading my blogspot with the slides up? Do you like them or are they too distracting?

A Christmas Tree Already

On the way home from work yesterday, I passed a house that already had a lighted and decorated Christmas tree up and showing by the window.

Is it not too soon for that? In my mind, the day after Thanksgiving is when the Christmas Season starts. That's when it's fair game to put up a tree and decorations and start shopping. The way things are going this year, I'll be lucky if I get organized enough to decorate a few days before Christmas.

With our dog, Rascal, who lives up to her name, we'll probably go with a fiber optic small tree on top of an end table. One of these days I may pull put the larger tree from the box in the basement and set it up, but not until our doggy is a little more sedate. I don't feel like chasing her to get ornaments out of her mouth. I will be putting up knick knacks, lights inside and decorations on the walls, so it will still look Christmasy. No lights outside because for some reason we have no outlets outside.

While we're on the subject of Christmas trees and such, be sure to add holidays in your books. You can mention decorations and lights  or Easter eggs and baskets, or even mattress sales in your descriptions to ground the reader as to the season.
Now, back to that tree I saw. What about you? When do you decorate for Christmas? What do you put up?

Winners and Losers at the CMAs and Life

I love country music and almost every country performer. While watching the CMAs, I enjoyed seeing the winners accept their awards. On the other hand, it was hard for me to see the losers do their best to appear gracious and for the most part succeeding.

For every winner, there's a loser. In life and in books, it's the same way. How people react to their good and bad fortune shows what their characters are made of.  You don't have to tell a reader who the good guy or  bad guy is. Let their actions speak for themselves. The readers are smart enough to figure it out.

PS Can't finish this blog without saying - You Rock, Taylor Swift! You are one smart, talented teenager! Congrats on all your awards, especially, Entertainer of the Year!!!

CMA Awards Tonight and Twitter

One of my favorite shows is on tonight - the CMA Awards. If you're a country music fan, you're probably like me and will be glued to the TV 8pm EST, or in my case 7pm, in the flatlands of Illinois.

Almost all my favorite performers will be there, except I hear that Rascal Flatts can't make it.

I'll be on Twitter during the show also. That's part of the fun of it - discussing and dissecting outfits, performers, songs and even commercials, kind of like I'm at a giant party with people who all go for the same thing and want to share.

What about you? What kind of music do you like? Do you tweet during a favorite show or event?

RSS

Rascal is sleeping right now. When she gets up, you'll know about it.

When RASCAL wakes up, you'll hear from her and/or her Mom - that would be me, Morgan Mandel.
