South Texas Boy Does Good

Mythica to publish US Author Tom Cooke's Debut Novel.
'THE MEMOIRS OF BEAR: Nueces Means Nuts' is a mystery novel penned by first time novelist Thomas D. Cooke. Mythica Publishing are pleased to have acquired the rights to publish this exciting work from this very talented author.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) – Feb 10, 2009 – Mythica Publishing are delighted that U.S. author Tom Cooke is the latest addition to the list of accomplished authors signing with this new and exciting company. Tom Cooke, although this is his first novel is no stranger to the media, having worked in the Cable TV industry for many years after leaving the U.S. Army, and being the writer of a number of technical manuals during those years.

Of his novel, THE MEMOIRS OF BEAR: Nueces Means Nuts is the story of Bear Williams; half breed Apache Private Eye whose grandfather was a tribal holy man. Despite years of training by his grandfather, Bear's mystic abilities are nominal and he solves most of his cases the old fashioned way, by hard work and, in Bear’s case, good friends and dumb luck.
The case's genesis, a deadly boring missing persons case, quickly turns into a cruel and grisly murder and a scandal of gigantic proportions. As the scandal is revealed it unwaveringly involves the cream of Texas society, a crazed preacher, an oil theft, homicide and rudeness, the last of which is regarded by some as a Capital Offense in Texas.
Despite two attempts on his life, Bear and his team of allies plod steadily forward and start to stack fact on top of fact until a preponderance of evidence starts to point to a surprising suspect. Even more surprising is how abruptly justice is meted out and by whom.
The well defined and likeable characters in this tale will draw the reader into the complex web of crime and scandal that surrounds the likeable Bear and his friends as they strike fear into the hearts of the perpetrators of the crime…eventually!

Mythica's Graeme S Houston says, "Tom's book is a superb crime-noir tale that will have readers on the edge of their seats. I'm over the moon to have added his great talents to the Mythica family of authors.".

THE MEMOIRS OF BEAR: Nueces Means Nuts will be released later this year.

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Hi Tom;

Gosh, I never cringe at anyone who takes time away from their computer. Good for you...:). I have to learn how you do that...lol.

I've had some interesting days. Listened to a few audio podcasts from John Kremer. VERY interesting...(okay - he's a tad long winded...lol). Love being able to take away information that I can apply. I feed off stuff like that.

Take your time getting that list to me. I understand.

Hi Tom;
Thank you for accepting my friendship.

Quite an impressive marketing strategy you have in place. I've just started my campaign as my book wont be out for another 6-12 months. I wrote a suspense/romance and am searching for sites to target my potential readers.

I've checked out your links you've stated below for Brian, but I'm a tad confused at the sites you belong to. Could you help me?

Have a wonderful day.

Tom. in answer to your question, my reader base is actually stronger in USA than anywhere. All of my promotion is online on as many groups and sites as possible.I see that our publisher's terms are pretty much the same and as usual we are expected to promote our books as much as possible. As I said, I promote on line and only pay for one item, which is the animated figures from Site Pal.
If you check my other sites, you can see where I am placing my books. The biggest reader numbers are female, but that's understandable as the books are geared toward females.
Amazon have an Authors page now which allows you to blog there, which I think is an important site to have. Also if you haven't already done so, get Amazon to install 'Look Inside' whereby readers can get an example text. Amazon UK will do it also for UK and Europe, but you have to approach them separately. Promoting in UK is not as easy as in US.
Check out my sites and you can get an idea of places to promote.
Yahoo books groups is an important one. search them out .
Hope this has been of some help. Cheers,
Brian.

I added a few slides of my books to my blogspot. I'm not sure yet if they should stay on or not.

Do you have more trouble loading my blogspot with the slides up? Do you like them or are they too distracting?

A Christmas Tree Already

On the way home from work yesterday, I passed a house that already had a lighted and decorated Christmas tree up and showing by the window.

Is it not too soon for that? In my mind, the day after Thanksgiving is when the Christmas Season starts. That's when it's fair game to put up a tree and decorations and start shopping. The way things are going this year, I'll be lucky if I get organized enough to decorate a few days before Christmas.

With our dog, Rascal, who lives up to her name, we'll probably go with a fiber optic small tree on top of an end table. One of these days I may pull put the larger tree from the box in the basement and set it up, but not until our doggy is a little more sedate. I don't feel like chasing her to get ornaments out of her mouth. I will be putting up knick knacks, lights inside and decorations on the walls, so it will still look Christmasy. No lights outside because for some reason we have no outlets outside.

While we're on the subject of Christmas trees and such, be sure to add holidays in your books. You can mention decorations and lights  or Easter eggs and baskets, or even mattress sales in your descriptions to ground the reader as to the season.
Now, back to that tree I saw. What about you? When do you decorate for Christmas? What do you put up?

Winners and Losers at the CMAs and Life

I love country music and almost every country performer. While watching the CMAs, I enjoyed seeing the winners accept their awards. On the other hand, it was hard for me to see the losers do their best to appear gracious and for the most part succeeding.

For every winner, there's a loser. In life and in books, it's the same way. How people react to their good and bad fortune shows what their characters are made of.  You don't have to tell a reader who the good guy or  bad guy is. Let their actions speak for themselves. The readers are smart enough to figure it out.

PS Can't finish this blog without saying - You Rock, Taylor Swift! You are one smart, talented teenager! Congrats on all your awards, especially, Entertainer of the Year!!!

CMA Awards Tonight and Twitter

One of my favorite shows is on tonight - the CMA Awards. If you're a country music fan, you're probably like me and will be glued to the TV 8pm EST, or in my case 7pm, in the flatlands of Illinois.

Almost all my favorite performers will be there, except I hear that Rascal Flatts can't make it.

I'll be on Twitter during the show also. That's part of the fun of it - discussing and dissecting outfits, performers, songs and even commercials, kind of like I'm at a giant party with people who all go for the same thing and want to share.

What about you? What kind of music do you like? Do you tweet during a favorite show or event?

RSS

Rascal is sleeping right now. When she gets up, you'll know about it.

When RASCAL wakes up, you'll hear from her and/or her Mom - that would be me, Morgan Mandel.
