Heart of the Wolf Terry Spear. Sourcebooks/Casablanca, $6.99 (384p) ISBN 978−1−4022−1157−7

Red werewolf Bella flees her adoptive pack of gray werewolves when the alpha male Volan tries forcibly to claim her as his mate. Her real love, beta male Devlyn, has been out of her life for years, but comes after her when she finds herself accidentally captured by humans. Bella becomes convinced that Devlyn only wants to return her to Volan, but soon realizes that Devlyn loves her as much as she loves him, and is willing to fight Volan to the death to claim her. That problem pales, however, as a pack of red werewolves takes to killing human females in a crazed quest to claim Bella for their own. Bella and Devlyn must defeat the rogue wolves before Devlyn's final confrontation with Volan. The vulpine couple's chemistry crackles off the page, but the real strength of the book lies in Spear's depiction of pack power dynamics, as well as in the details of human−wolf interaction. Her wolf world feels at once palpable and even plausible. (Apr.)

Heart of the Wolf Made Publishers Weekly's BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR!!!

Heart of the Wolf was written from the heart--a diversion from other paranormal romantic suspenses that I had written, something based on mythologies I used to love to read, foklore, and Jack London's Call of the Wild and White Fang, the wolf's perspective h… Continue

HEART OF THE WOLF Terry Spear

4 Stars! HOT
A solidly crafted werewolf story, this tale centers on pack problems in a refreshingly straightforward way. The characters are well drawn and believable, which makes the contemporary plotline of this story of love and life among the lupus garou seem, well, realistic.

SUMMARY: Bell a fled her adopted grey wolf pack as a young teen because of the unwelcome attentions of the alpha male. She's built a life for herself as a lone wolf i… Continue

Finally got the cover for The Vampire...In My Dream! It's a Young Adult book and he looks pretty devilish, don't you think?

Hi Brenda, I sent two books to established authors who are willing to give me an endorsement. It cost me $20 per book for shipping and printing double sided and binding, but those are the kind of comments that will hopefully get the book noticed. And they will actually go in the book. :) Luckily, two other authors allowed me to send them the mss by email. Some others are willing to review the book also, and I'm letting the publisher send ARC's to them. :) Can you turn your book into a PDF and send it to reviewers on the web? That's where I get a lot of great reviews and none of them charge for the review, then I use them to add to my website and I've even put them up on Amazon.com. Readers have told me that they bought "Winning the Highlander's Heart" after reading the great reviews. Do you have a list of reviewers? If not, I can send you what I have. Not all will review, and one has taken months before they found a reviewer who wanted to read it, but that's okay. I did send to Midwest Book Reviews and the Library Journal, same as with the published authors, cost me about $20 per book, and I didn't get any kind of a review from it. So I try to minimize the cost of sending out to places like that and get great reviews from other sources! We already pay enough to get our babies out there! Terry

Hi Terry. I've just dropped in from Shannon's page and became interested in your comments on the costs of sending out books to reviewers. Thank you for your candour. I've been made to feel small minded when I've made those comments to friends. But it all adds up doesn't it? I worked out once that I have to send ten books in order to pay for one copy reviewed. More with p and p. Thanks for making me feel less 'alone' in my small publication world.

My son has a labradoodle that is a total idiot! Oh my! So much for the super breed...
I will review an ebook or a pdf of a book. I charge $100 for a book review of 500+ words. You may then use it for any promo, publication, newsletters, etc. I publish the review on my website portfolio page with your name, a thumbprint of the cover, and a link to your website or email. I also ask that if you use the review you credit me in a similar fashion (dependent on the format).
Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can help answer any other questions; however, I am not sure how much help I will be with dog behavior. My chocolate lab is currently lying across my lap trying to lick the edges of my toast. My yellow lab is on the love seat - the forbidden zone - napping.

I can totally relate to doggie disobedience! My chocolate lab and I were escorted OUT of class on one occasion. Mocha is not naughty...just independently spirited!
If you ever need a professional book review for Amazon, B and N, etc, I hope you will consider me! Be sure to check out the samples on my portfolio page of my website www.mywritingmentor.com. My fees are very reasonable.
With warmest regards,
Shannon Evans

Check out the Mystery of the Missing Checks

Monday, I'm over at my group blog, http://makeminemystery.blogspot.com/, where I'm blogging about the mystery of the missing checks. Come on over and find out what it's all about.

Thanks,
Morgan Mandel

Can We Talk?

I'm firming up some dates for speaking engagements in 2010. One's tentatively set for March 28, at 1:30 at the Niles Public Library, another probably in mid May at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

Also, coming up is a radio interview at WJJQ again on May 7, at 9:35 a.m. before my booksigning May 8 at Cover to Cover Books in Tomahawk, WI.

I've heard that some people are more afraid of public speaking than of dying. Surprisingly, I find it easier each time I do it. As long as I have my cheat sheet with me to glance down at once in a while for security and I like what I'm talking about, I'm okay.

What about you? Do you like to talk or would you rather not?

Helpless

Over the Holiday weekend I took a good look at my house and that familiar helples feeling washed over me again. It seemed like an insurmountable task to get the place in order. It still does.

I spend so much time writing and promoting after I do my day job, what little time I have left is precious. Still, sometimes I just have to buckle down and ignore my compulsion to write and make myself clean house instead. I tackled the spare bedroom, which had clothes and all kinds of other articles strewn over the bed, on the floor, and anywhere you can think of, compliments of myself and the DH, who were equally guilty.  I did make some headway, which made me feel good, but if I had more time I know I could do better. Also, there are so many other projects left to do if I were to get the house really into shape. I'm wondering how much I'll get done before Christmas, when I have my family over.

Maybe over the weekend I can get more done, that is, after I do the Illinois sales tax form first, which is due by the end of the month. I've got almost all of my check statements, except one, which I think I can find online, so maybe I can get that done. You may have guessed I'm not the most organized person in the world.

Anyway, let's see how far I can get cleaning up. I've got this kindle on loan from the library, with about 9 days left on it, and lots of good books on it beckoning to me. I've got some great ideas for stories I want to start and others I want to continue. I've got some blog buddies I haven't visited for a while. I wonder what will win out. (g)

What about you? What do you do about housework? Does it get in the way sometimes?

PS The not so surprising results are up on the left for my EZ poll. I'll have to do a harder one some time.
