Profile Information

Are you an Author, Reader, Publisher, Editor, Agent or Other?
In cahoots with my spouse, I've written three novels and many short stories. We both read a lot, but I was raised on phonics, hence read less rapidly (but can spell). Neither of us is a publisher, editor, or agent, but we're both occasionally "other," depending on what that means.
Do You Have A Website?
visitable although forever under construction, it's
http://www.montanamysteries.com
About Me:
Well, what would you like to know? Westerner, mostly (Utah, California, Utah again, South Carolina, Wisconsin, South Dakota, New Jersey, Montana). Retired from a mathematical career. Reading now mostly mystery and history, and anything that rhymes with both. There's more, but reciting it all bores me and bores you as well, I bet.
Do you have a blog site?
http://I dislike blogs
Favorite Books:
Mystery and history, like I said. Sorry: no favorites. I like Agatha Christie so well I sometimes re-read her, and I grew up on Erle Stanley Gardner and Rex Stout, so maybe if you really insist I could name those three. My tastes run to the cozy, plus some moderately hard-boiled (but not poached), and hardly any noir at all. I'm a bit discouraged if I find a corpse on page one, since it looks formulaic, and besides, for me the crime-in-the-plot needn't be murder at all. The history part means mostly, but not all, local/regional, but even then not always only of where I live. It may include history of things or even (are you sitting down?) ideas.
Favorite Bookstores on land or cyberspace
I favor indies. My novels are POD and the chains are a bit snooty about stocking those (though they can usually be persuaded to order them once they find out they're listed in Books In Print). I buy books in cyberspace rarely, but when I do, I have no objection to ABEbooks.com nor even Amazon.com, though I find the expansionist tendencies of the latter deplorable.

Hi,

My name is Chris Tusa, and I'm a writer from New Orleans. I am writing because my debut novel, Dirty Little Angels, is now available, and I was hoping you might be willing to read it and post your comments on some of the book review sites like amazon.com. If you're interested, I'd be glad to send you an e-book version of the book. Just let me know. I've included a summary of the novel below:

Dirty Little Angels
Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by Moses's lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses's twisted religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from which there may be no escape.

If you'd like to read the first chapter before you commit, feel free to visit my web site:

MORGAN'S OWN BLOGSPOT

Come on Over

I'm over at a few other blogs today. If you get a chance, come on over to see the Christmas Decorations at http://acmeauthorslink.blogspot.com/

At http://bloodredpencil.blogspot.com/  the topic is Spoiled Milk. Ever sit down to read a good book and been disappointed?

If you haven't yet, check out the post below about the Paper War.

Thanks,
Morgan Mandel

Paper War

I've been waging a war on paper the last few days. So far, paper is winning. The more I clean up, the more of it I find. The problem is, for much of it, I feel an obligation to do a thorough examination and decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

The mailperson is my enemy. He, sometimes she, keeps leaving more paper in my mail box. I'm not talking about my Christmas cards, which I cherish, but all the other stuff dropped off for me to sort out. At times it's torture to come home and see the new pile the DH has set on the kitchen table.

I've discovered tons of magazines over a year old. They were trying to hide in a magazine holder on the side of the couch, but not doing a good job of it, since they were spilling over. Of course, I decided to check the headings on the covers to see if some of the information inside might prove valuable. Wouldn't you know it, I was right. Many articles seemed to good to give up.

I've already mentioned here before about how I also have a compulsion to print out emails that seem important to me. The result is I have lots of important pieces of paper. When there's an abundance, which is the most important? And, where's the one I really need? It is a quandary.

What about you? Is paper your enemy? Are you also waging a war against it? Who is winning?
