About Me:
I am a college student who has been writing stories since age 3. I decided to be a writer when I was eleven, and have been writing long stories since then.

Currently I am working on two novel-length stories, one a high-fantasy genre, the other an occult/romance/adventure drama sort of story. Both are currently unfinished, but I am working on finishing the occult/romance/adventure drama one. The fantasy one I have reluctantly put aside for a while, because I am writing its prequel (another fantasy) for my YA Fiction Writing class.

My writing experience includes short story contests, poetry, being published in my highschool art magazine, various long stories, and a couple completed long stories that are unfortunately very old and not worth reading. I am aware that many writers do not take fanfiction seriously, but I personally have experienced that writing fanfiction helped me to improve my writing skills a lot. Therefore I will admit that yes, I have written several Harry Potter fanfictions.

Most of the time though, I work on my novel-length long stories. I really enjoy long stories because I like diving into the worlds I can create and really getting into my characters' heads. It's a lot of fun. I will always love writing. Sometimes it can be frustrating, but a lot of the time I can say, "I love writing!"

Favorite Books:
I am an avid reader of fantasy-genre books, and favorites of mine include Tolkien's writing, the Harry Potter series, the Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Dark Heart by Betsy James, The Dark Elf trilogy by R.A. Salvatore, and others. I am a big fan of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi "Ender's Game," and to date it is my favorite sci-fi book ever; it is one of the only sci-fi genre books I have picked up and thoroughly enjoyed.

I am also a comicbook fan, so I read books such as "Zits" series that you often see in the newspaper, and also many Japanese manga series.

Working on a new writing piece, and revision

Wow, I have not been on Ning in a long time. Well, school has kept me busy, so I have a good excuse.

Currently I am working on yet ANOTHER long story, this time for my writing class, "Advanced Fiction Writing for Children and Young Adults." In other words, instead of writing short stories like in Beginning Fiction for Children and YA, I am writing a Young Adult novel.

So far, it is going well. I just recently got feedback on my first chunk and people enjoyed my writing. THey also had excellent… Continue

"Atonement" by Ian McEwan - recommending it

This is just a quick note saying, I'd really like to recommend to EVERYONE the book "Atonement" by Ian McEwan (the guy who wrote "Saturday" and the newly published "On Chesil Beach").

Reading "Atonement" was a phenomenon for me, because I usually don't read this type of book. It's set during World War II time, with fictional characters. That sort of genre usually does not appeal to me - I am much more the fantasy-genre or young adult book reader. I read stuff

Hi,

My name is Chris Tusa, and I'm a writer from New Orleans. My debut novel, Dirty Little Angels, is now available for pre-order from Amazon.com, and I am writing because I was hoping you might be willing to read it and post your thoughts on Amazon.com (or some of the other book review sites). If you're interested, I'd be more than willing to send you an e-book version by e-mail. Just let me know. I've included a summary of the novel below:

Dirty Little Angels
Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by Moses's lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses's twisted religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from which there may be no escape.

Check out the Mystery of the Missing Checks

Can We Talk?

I'm firming up some dates for speaking engagements in 2010. One's tentatively set for March 28, at 1:30 at the Niles Public Library, another probably in mid May at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

Also, coming up is a radio interview at WJJQ again on May 7, at 9:35 a.m. before my booksigning May 8 at Cover to Cover Books in Tomahawk, WI.

I've heard that some people are more afraid of public speaking than of dying. Surprisingly, I find it easier each time I do it. As long as I have my cheat sheet with me to glance down at once in a while for security and I like what I'm talking about, I'm okay.

What about you? Do you like to talk or would you rather not?

Helpless

Over the Holiday weekend I took a good look at my house and that familiar helples feeling washed over me again. It seemed like an insurmountable task to get the place in order. It still does.

I spend so much time writing and promoting after I do my day job, what little time I have left is precious. Still, sometimes I just have to buckle down and ignore my compulsion to write and make myself clean house instead. I tackled the spare bedroom, which had clothes and all kinds of other articles strewn over the bed, on the floor, and anywhere you can think of, compliments of myself and the DH, who were equally guilty.  I did make some headway, which made me feel good, but if I had more time I know I could do better. Also, there are so many other projects left to do if I were to get the house really into shape. I'm wondering how much I'll get done before Christmas, when I have my family over.

Maybe over the weekend I can get more done, that is, after I do the Illinois sales tax form first, which is due by the end of the month. I've got almost all of my check statements, except one, which I think I can find online, so maybe I can get that done. You may have guessed I'm not the most organized person in the world.

Anyway, let's see how far I can get cleaning up. I've got this kindle on loan from the library, with about 9 days left on it, and lots of good books on it beckoning to me. I've got some great ideas for stories I want to start and others I want to continue. I've got some blog buddies I haven't visited for a while. I wonder what will win out. (g)

What about you? What do you do about housework? Does it get in the way sometimes?

PS The not so surprising results are up on the left for my EZ poll. I'll have to do a harder one some time.
