They can keep that heat, but mostly that humidity. I'm from the midwest and we get both in spades during the summer months. Add to that swarms of mosquitoes and huge biting Horse Flies and you have yourself some lovely picnic weather!

Hi Ken!
a few months ago you emaile dme back and said you loved Pillars of the Earth. Well, didn't know if you saw the sequel at B&N. I was so excited to see it! Of course, this means I have to go back and re-read the original so I won't get to it anytime soon! But looks to be a great read!

I am not a pilot, he was/is. I used to live in Rome and have family in Scotia. Used to salmon fish in Mexico, NY and hike a ton in the Adirondacks and the Catskills. Did some skiing too but was icy. I love NY but hate the taxes and the job situation.

Where is Tillson, NY? I was previously married to an AF pilot who suffered from untreated bipolar disorder. 18 ugly years later he is in Gulfport, MS and I am in WA state. I find it interesting now to view our past from the outside looking in,etc. Now that I am off the roller coaster of his life I can see what the problem was. I hope he discovers your book!

About Me:
I am on "The Book Marketing" network and "The New York" network as well. I'm an ex Marine Gulf War vet first and foremost. After that I am a father of one boy, a past substance abuser of all types, a fitness nut, a jack of all tradesman, a felon, a brawler, twice divorced, and a survivor of bipolar illness.

For all I've done (and it's a bunch) bipolar became my whole entire universe. I wallowed in every negative emotion there is to feel and at strengths I didn't know the human mind had the power to drum up. It was killing me...literally.

I've since recovered, although that's supposed to be impossible, I quit every thing I was ever addicted to (except coffee - me and the holy bean have an understanding), and my life just improves in ways I did not see coming.

My story is not believed by some. I've been clinically dead twice, multiple times during each day. I've come out of two comas. I've survived car wrecks, gang attacks, and many other violent physical happenings, not the least of which was the War.

I became someone that others feared, including my own family. Eventually, I simply turned pathetic as bipolar consumed me and robbed me of all my strength, dignity, possessions, freedom, wives, and then my sanity.

I was beyond hope, beyond help for eight years. Somewhere in there I got pissed! The character traits planted in me firmly by the Marines started resurfacing and I took charge. It took me a few years to figure it all out but I did it.

This story and my system, tested by myself, is what's in my book "It Takes Guts To Be Me: How An Ex Marine Beat Bipolarism."

When you read where my life took me and how horrific a place that was, you will feel hope for yourself because I made it out. So can you or your loved one if this is the 6,000 pound gorilla on your back. Trust me.

God's given me countless free passes. There's a reason I'm still drawing air. It's to help you.

Your BOOK PLACE Box

Lots of creative types (like writers) have bipolar or something like it. Maybe YOU are the one who needs ME right now!

I spell it all out but not in a painfully clinical way. As I tell my life story, you are brought along on a twisted adventure some have trouble believing is even real. I mean, I've been DEAD twice! Aren't you just a wee bit curious as to what the hell was up with that?

C'mon. Caress the link with the pointer.

The end of the line was staring me right in the face and yet I escaped. You or someone you know can do the same. I figured out a few things and you need to know them. Get my book and get to healin'!

You won't regret it. And thank you!

Ken Jensen

For maximum effectiveness I am simply pimping my myspace blog.

Hey guys!

I blog 'til my brain weeps over on Myspace. So doing it here would not only be redundant but needlessly punishing to my weary hemispheres. My lobes. Gotta protect my lobes!

I'm a bit of a character and it comes out quite clear in my blog: http://blog.myspace.com/ittakesgutstobeme

"Normal" beyond good health, has always annoyed me and I shun it. I fear it. I can't do it. I always considered that a strength.

Slides, Anyone?

I added a few slides of my books to my blogspot. I'm not sure yet if they should stay on or not.

Do you have more trouble loading my blogspot with the slides up? Do you like them or are they too distracting?

A Christmas Tree Already

On the way home from work yesterday, I passed a house that already had a lighted and decorated Christmas tree up and showing by the window.

Is it not too soon for that? In my mind, the day after Thanksgiving is when the Christmas Season starts. That's when it's fair game to put up a tree and decorations and start shopping. The way things are going this year, I'll be lucky if I get organized enough to decorate a few days before Christmas.

With our dog, Rascal, who lives up to her name, we'll probably go with a fiber optic small tree on top of an end table. One of these days I may pull put the larger tree from the box in the basement and set it up, but not until our doggy is a little more sedate. I don't feel like chasing her to get ornaments out of her mouth. I will be putting up knick knacks, lights inside and decorations on the walls, so it will still look Christmasy. No lights outside because for some reason we have no outlets outside.

While we're on the subject of Christmas trees and such, be sure to add holidays in your books. You can mention decorations and lights  or Easter eggs and baskets, or even mattress sales in your descriptions to ground the reader as to the season.
Now, back to that tree I saw. What about you? When do you decorate for Christmas? What do you put up?

Winners and Losers at the CMAs and Life

I love country music and almost every country performer. While watching the CMAs, I enjoyed seeing the winners accept their awards. On the other hand, it was hard for me to see the losers do their best to appear gracious and for the most part succeeding.

For every winner, there's a loser. In life and in books, it's the same way. How people react to their good and bad fortune shows what their characters are made of.  You don't have to tell a reader who the good guy or  bad guy is. Let their actions speak for themselves. The readers are smart enough to figure it out.

PS Can't finish this blog without saying - You Rock, Taylor Swift! You are one smart, talented teenager! Congrats on all your awards, especially, Entertainer of the Year!!!

CMA Awards Tonight and Twitter

One of my favorite shows is on tonight - the CMA Awards. If you're a country music fan, you're probably like me and will be glued to the TV 8pm EST, or in my case 7pm, in the flatlands of Illinois.

Almost all my favorite performers will be there, except I hear that Rascal Flatts can't make it.

I'll be on Twitter during the show also. That's part of the fun of it - discussing and dissecting outfits, performers, songs and even commercials, kind of like I'm at a giant party with people who all go for the same thing and want to share.

What about you? What kind of music do you like? Do you tweet during a favorite show or event?

RSS

Rascal is sleeping right now. When she gets up, you'll know about it.

When RASCAL wakes up, you'll hear from her and/or her Mom - that would be me, Morgan Mandel.
