The Background Scenario of my Iskander Series

Some Cosmology and Gaian History. How did the current cultures of Gaia, my alternate Earth, evolve? I will start with the underpinnings. First I suppose I should mention the underlying mechanisms of an Alternate Earth that guided my conception. The Many Worlds theory is a part of Quantum Mechanics that attempts to account for the randomness of quantum events. Erwin Schrodinger was a physicist who contributed one of the most important bricks in the edifice of the developing quantum theories in… Continue

Identity Theft anyone?

Hello All: I’m at Day 10 with the Virtual Book Tour, but I’d like to mention something that happened while I was promoting The Wildcat’s Victory on Facebook. I originally thought I had received a reply from a child or young person, and replied gently with that in mind – but after I received a reply I began to think someone was hitting me up for identity theft. Tell me what you think – I posted more detail on my blog today (March 14th) at http://thewildcatsvictory.wordpress.com Please excuse th… Continue

See a Virtual Book Tour in Action

Offering an invitation to see a blog tour in action. My March Virtual Book Tour starts soon and anyone interested in learning how this form of promotion works can follow along by visiting the participating sites. Promotion is the next thing a writer has to learn after growing some competence in the writing craft. Perhaps following my tour will enable you to learn if this method is for you. The first venue is a blog interview on March 3rd . I will post each week’s venues and links ahead of time… Continue

Some updates on Deadly Enterprise

I intended to wait a few days over the week before posting another update here, but time got away from me.

Firstly, let me provide the tinyurl link for Deadly Enterprise on Amazon. It’s http://tinyurl.com/yryhs7 The copy price is $14.99 and postage & handling will bring that to about $20 - a bit more in Canada.

Deadly Enterprise is now available as a Kindle edition on Amazon.com for their new Kindle E-Reader. It’s even at a new low price. Check it out at http

Some more Oil Gypsy stories and a small promotion update.

Deadly Enterprise hasn’t had much promotion this week, until yesterday when I started another blitz of review sites to get more takers. The early part of the week I was busy finishing up the last of the last novel clinic, and then went out to begin the annual firewood collection. The forestry has been closed because of the drought and extreme fire hazard, so I collected a load from along the CPR track. It was harder work that usual because I couldn’t drive to the wood and had to drag it out by h… Continue

Tomorrow -- review for Deadly Enterprise on TCM Reviews

Hi All:

I’ve ordered a few POD copies of Deadly Enterprise, but they’ve not arrived yet. To order the large print paperback off the Double Dragon website (at http://www.double-dragon-ebooks.com/single.php?ISBN=1-55404-466-9 ) you need to click on the link at the top right hand corner of the page. BTW, large print doesn’t mean the almost Braille copies produced for the vision impaired – these are 14 pt that are easier to read than the ‘cram in as much print as possible to save cost’ PODs… Continue

Actually my Novelspot interview is on the front page right now. I did have another but I’m going to have to send a note to the blog owner to find out the link to it.

Continuation of night drive to Gialo.

The oilfield warehouse was silent and in darkness when we arrived. No idiots here driving around the desert in the dead of night. It consisted of large hangar-like sheds, metal warehouse buildings, and a trailer park of sleeping quarters. We banged on doors until we woke up enough people that one could tell us where our guy was.

"He's not here. The plane landed at the Amoseas strip and they left him there."

Great. The Amoseas strip was closer to our camp, b

An excerpt from Oil Gipsy.

As an oilpatch surveyor, one of my jobs was to mark the route to the locations where we were working, which might be out of a remote town, a desert oasis, or an Arctic island. I started learning how to navigate in trackless wastes in the 1960s, in the Libyan Desert – a northern patch of the great Sahara – and I did it by driving in dead-reckoning straight lines. As much as possible.

An aside here – Sa'hara is the Arabic word for desert, so Sahara Desert is actually .

History on a Knife Edge

I look in on the Alternate History site quite often, just to see if anyone has added comment to the couple of threads I've posted on. I have to really boggle at the passion with which some members defend their pet versions of reality.

That seem to me to be the real thrust of alternate history. Someone has a strong emotional commitment to one particular person or side in a historical event and want to show how they were really in the right, or they were given a bum rap, or fate was just… Continue

Twisted Tales II, Volume 2, Out of Time

Hi All:

I must announce the publication of our latest anthology from Double Dragon -- 'specially because I have a story in it.

Volume one has been out for over a month and now volume two has followed it. I was pleased to be invited to contribute to this joint effort by the other Double Dragon authors, especially because I was the newbie and my novels had not yet reached release date.

Plug time. My alternate world/soft SF adventures "Deadly Enterprise" and "The Wildcat… Continue

Writing Plausible Anachronisms

When I started my Iskander series I was interested in exploring the effect of introducing people with advanced capabilities into a simpler culture. My advanced people I wanted to be little different from ourselves, so I made them no more distant than 22nd century folk. That way I felt the reverse impact of the simpler culture on the advanced would be more meaningful to the reader.

My simpler culture is not from any strictly defined historical period of our time line, but since it l… Continue

Hi Gang,
Today, I've got a new Killer Career excerpt up at http://acmeauthorslink.blogspot.com/ . This one continues from the first excerpt I posted on Monday at http://makeminemystery.blogspot.com/

If you're curious about my recently released romantic suspense, come on over to one or both blogs to check it out.

Time Out for Kindle Reading

Our local library has 8 kindles available for its patrons. The DH and I both got on the waiting list, mainly so I could use one. His number was reached and we picked up the kindle on Sunday afternoon. Now I've got a kindle to read for 2 weeks! So far I'm really loving it, especially the current book I'm reading, My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

What about you? Do you own a kindle? Or, have you tried someone else's? Would you like to?

Who's Doing Cyber Monday?

I'm very carefully going to check out the Cyber Monday deals. I have a few items in mind that I plan to buy, but it would be very nice if they'd go on sale and save me some money. I won't be spending much. Can't afford to do so this year.

What about you?

Did You Shop on Black Friday?

There's still time to take the poll to the left about what you ate at Thanksgiving.
About Black Friday -
The DH despises mob scenes, but my brother and I do love the adventure of shopping on Black Friday. We weren't courageous enough to get up at the crack of dawn, though, so we did miss out on a few goodies, like the snuglee blankets and pots and pans sets at Menards, and some other items. I did manage to get some work gloves at almost 50 cents each pair, and a boot/shoe dryer which sounded interesting and was less than $9.00. The biggest extravagance there was this turntable with MP3 encoding/AM FM radio combination thing, but that was only $49.00, which isn't too bad. I didn't go for any of the high ticket items.

I didn't do too bad, but do have some Staples rebates to send in. They're pretty easy to do online, so I don't mind doing them. I bought some USB flash drives, batteries, and CD rewrites there.

I also bought a reversible light grey, almost white bubble coat and some grey boots at Walmart, both items $7.00 each, which I plan to use walking Rascal.

What about you? Did you shop on Black Friday? If so, what kind of deals did you get?

So, this year I was pretty practical, but it was still fun and I did get a few things I hadn't expected to find.

What about you? Did you shop on Black Friday? If so, what kind of finds did you get?

Rascal is sleeping right now. When she gets up, you'll know about it.

When RASCAL wakes up, you'll hear from her and/or her Mom - that would be me, Morgan Mandel.
