Hello!
I'm excited to be here ... I'm an author of two books, both historical family sagas. "Memories Trail" came out in November 2004, and Midwest Book Review had this to say ... "a story so full of compassion and purpose it will grab your heart and not let go ..."
"Promises To Keep" was published in November 2006. It continues the family saga and Midwest Book Review said, "... this is a story of life, good and bad; it's challenges and the hope of new beginnings. Excellent read!"
Please visit my website to view all my reviews and learn more about my writing and my books. I'm currently working on the next installment of the Douglas family, set in 1840's Kentucky!

About Me:
For the last seven years I've been a children's librarian at our local library. I enjoy spending time with my young friends and creating programs that allows their imagination to grow. I've been teaching Chess to 2nd-8th graders now for six years ~ due mostly to Harry Potter and the first J.K. Rowling's book with the giant Chess game.
Of course, I've created my own monsters with this program. High School kids come into the library and want to play Mrs. Deb in a match! But more importantly once they are inside the library I steer the conversation to books. Sometimes they leave with a book in tow and I feel progress has been made. My goal as a children's librarian is to get young people excited about the written word. After all I am a writer!

Before my library days, I spent eleven years working at Northern Illinois University in the Department of Children and Family Services. This department provided on-going education for those working in the social services of Illinois. As an on-sight coordinator I listened to many experts and professionals discuss family disfunctions. The information I gathered over the years equipped me to write my family saga, 'Promises To Keep.'

'Promises To Keep' is set in 1840's Kentucky. My characters are on an adventure of the heart and soul. Annie Douglas's wayward husband Joe spends too much time gambling. His unconventional lifestyle leads Annie to do the unthinkable.

Christine Douglas Frailey is determined to strenghten the marriage bond with her husband. But Francis has a nasty secret he keeps from her, destroying the trust between them. My book delves where few books have ventured. This historical is a glimpse of real life problems and the tenacity it takes to overcome hardships and become stronger and better than before.

Currently, I'm working on the next segment of this family saga, entitled 'Promises My Love.' This takes the Douglas family on another adventure where their moral beliefs are deeply shaken, but love and devotion lead the way to light and happiness.

I also have a werewolf series I'm working on, where the werewolf is the good guy! He is one of the Lord's best creatures. The werewolf and his men-type soldiers are in the universe to fight evil. Bloodlust is one of their best virtues. They have one small problem, on Earth and many other planets besides their own, they are forgetful. Memory loss is great for their sanity, but disaster on trying to keep things straight in their minds. This minor flaw creates havoc as they stumble and sniff out ways to solve their tasks of eliminating demons. One warrior in particular finds himself in a dilemma. Wade Axelman, priest and the prince's protector forgot he fell in love with a human reporter Tracy Collier. Tracy is not amused.

Right now I'm working on Book Three of my werewolf series. I hope to find a publisher soon for the first book, 'The Warrior Priest & The Werewolf Prince.'

I've mentioned Illinois and yep, that's where I live with my family. My kids are grown and visit regularly. We are table talkers, camp fire experts and an all round hang-out together type of family. My twin granddaughters keep my heart young and my eyes smiling. I'm an alto in our church choir, a gardener when time allows, and a farm wife to the greatest guy who loves the dirt, machinery and telling a good joke.

I'm always looking for inpirational quotes to get me through the day. I have several on my office wall. The newest one added goes like this: 'Be kinder than necessary, 'cause everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'

I hope you stop by at the ACME Authors link soon. I blog each Thursday. The address is: www.acmeauthorslink.blogspot.com

My name is Deborah Lynn Larson. My nickname is DL. I also go by Deb. Feel free to address me in either way.

Til next time ~

Deb,

Thanks for stopping by my page at Book Place. Good luck with your publishing endeavors.

It must be great being a children's librarian, seeing all those excited kids picking out new books. I like to think that when children read my middle-reader novels that they enjoy themselves and learn a little something too.

Teens enjoy my sweet romances. I love hearing from them, especially when they're doing a book report and need some author info. That's fun.

My Impressions - Barbara Walters Show & Academy Awards - Morgan Mandel

I've got a sore throat, which means a cold or the dreaded flu, but I got bored with sleeping.

To break the monotony, I watched Barbara Walters interview:

Miley Cyrus - or Destiny Hope Cyrus, which was the first name her parents gave her. She's 15 years old and already owns an entire wing in her parents' home. What a life!
Very engaging young girl who seems to have her head on straight despite all of her notoriety.

I also watched Barbara Walters interview Ellen Page, a very pretty 21 year old, very sensible, but she just had to close the interview singing a song which I can't get out of my head - nice little ditty.

Vanessa Williams - who spoke about the controversy over her nude photos and admitted they weren't worth it in the long run. Very lovely woman who admitted she, like many other movie stars, uses Botox.

Harrison Ford - who says his new Indiana Jones movie, set for release in May, will not hide the passage of time. Harrison himself is now 65, but doesn't look it.

I love the glamor of the Academy Awards. I particularly enjoy watching what the stars wear and how their hair is done. Sometimes they look completely different in person than on the sample movie clips shown.

Many of the women are wearing strapless gowns - which always make me a bit nervous - how do they keep them up without spilling out of them?

Anyway, I haven't seen any of the movies, but will eventually do so on DVD.

I just watched Tilda Swinton win supporting actress. She looked totally surprised. It was refreshing to see that much spontaneity.

Anyway, I'm signing off now so I can enjoy the rest of the Awards - Also to Dream that some day my romantic comedy, GIRL OF MY DREAMS by Morgan Mandel can be made into a movie - Well, I did say it was a dream, didn't I?
